*** About Meerkats: Meerkats are small, burrowing animals native primarily to the arid regions of southern Africa. Known scientifically as Suricata suricatta, these members of the mongoose family are celebrated for their upright posture and social behavior. They live in large groups called “mobs” or “gangs,” which can contain up to 50 members. Meerkats are highly adaptive and are known for their ability to stand on their rear legs to survey their surroundings for predators. Their diet mainly consists of insects, but they also eat small rodents, birds, and fruit.
